Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued four early chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
