Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG to Date
The anticipation around The Game Awards was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
