Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for details.

A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
